Iraqi armed forces continue pushing the battle to recapture Mosul. The city was captured by ISIS in early june 2014 and has been ruled by since then. Its been a bit more than a year that Iraqi troops have started the offensive and deliberately they are coming to an end. Troops slowed advancing down as the civilian casualties increased by the airstrikes and shelling in march, however more than 75% of the city center has already been recaptured by Iraqi forces. Photographer Uygar Onder Simsek was there at western Mosul frontline to document the actual situation.

In the midst of the fight, a family who survived fleeing Mosul after Iraqi forces recaptured the neighborhood where they had been living, on the 11th of April 2017, around Mosul Airport, western Mosul, Iraq.
